Sleep/Wake button – Also known as the On/off or lock button. Clicking this button will either put the iPad to sleep or wake it from sleep.

Home button – is used to close out of an app and return to the home screen, making it easily the most important button on the iPad. You can also use the home button to wake the iPad up when you want to start using it. Double-clicking the home button will bring up the task bar, which can be used to close down apps that are still running in the background.

Charging Port – Newer iPads come with a Lightning connector while older models have a 30-pin connector. The main difference between the two is the size of the adapter that plugs into the iPad. The other end of the cable can plug into a computer AC USB charging adaper that is provided.

Headphone Jack – a 3.5 mm input that will accept sound signals as well as outputting sound, so it can be used to hook up a microphone or a headset with a microphone.

Mute switch – Eliminates all sound coming from the iPad if turned on.

Volume toggle – Controls the volume of sounds coming from the iPad.

Front Camera – This is a lower qulaity camera and is usually used for Facetime or Skyping.

Rear Camera – This is the higher quality camera used for taking pictures or video.
